ORDERS FOR CROCKERY CANCELLED
AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. Because the majority of Australian orders for crockery have been cancelled as a result of the alteration in the exchange rate, 75 men and women employees of the Amaiagamated Brick and Pipe Company, Limited, at New Lynn are under notice of dismissal. They represent one-sixth of the staff employed in the crockery manufacturing section. They will finish work at the end of next week. During 2A years the company has built up a substantial crockery export to the Australian market. There was a tariff of 17 \ per cent. When the exchange alteration had the effect of adding 20 per cent, to the price paid in Australia, it became too high for Australian importers. Efforts *o re-book orders are being made by the firm's representative in Australia.
