EXTRA COST OF U.N. MEETINGS IN EUROPE
(11.25 a.m.) GENEVA, Oct. 26. The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations decided by 11 votes to seven to hold its 1949 summer session in Geneva. Mr. Willard Thorpe (America) said that a meeting of the council in Europe would cost the United extra and disrupt its organisation. M. Arutiunian (Russia) said conditions of work at Lake Success were scandalous and the organisation was inefficient. The summer there was especially insufferable and painful. Mr. J. "Thorn (New Zealand) said, the council of the main United Nations should meet at the United Nations’ headquarters. The next session of the council will be held in February at Lake Success and tlie following one at Geneva in July.
