INCOME TAX REBATE

(P.R.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 27. “Where there are two income tax assessments for a man and his wife, there will be two £lO rebates, said the Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, in the House of Representatives yesterday to Mr. G. M. Mackley (Oppos., Wairarapa), who had asked whether the rebate would apply to all individuals or be withheld in the case of a married woman with’ a taxable income of her own. It had been suggested, said _ Mr. Mackley, that because the individual incomes of husband and wife were combined for tax assessment purposes, the wife would lose the benefit of the £ 10 rebate. A taxation bill would shortly be introduced, said the Minister.
