DISCUSSION ON GARDENING : DISPLAY OF DAFFODILS

Various problems affecting the home gardener were discussed at last night’s quarterly meeting of the P.B. Horticultural Society, held in the Bon Accord Lounge. A comprehensive display of daffodils was staged. The president, Mr F. Birket, mentioned that it had been decided to apply for the national daffodil show to be held in Gisborne next year. Whether or not Gisborne obtained this show would depend largely on the success oi this year’s daffodil show, which would be held in the Army Hall on September 8 and 9 Messrs. G. T. Maunder, W. A. Bell and C. O Hansen were thanked by Mr. Birkett for staging the display of daffodils, which was the centre of admiration during the evening. A panel of gardeners, each an enthusiast in a particular sphere of gardening, was then called upon to answer various questions submitted by the audience and an interesting discussion ensued on various gardening topics. TJie audience, which was a record one for a meeting of the society, was later entertained to supper, over which there were several informal discussions on daffodils.
