EFFORTS TO AVOID RUSH OF IMPORTS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 3. To avoid shipping congestion resulting from a rush to land as much as possible before the end of the licensing period, December 31, the possibility of adjusting the period during which licenses are available is being considered, said the Minister of Customs, Mr. W. Nash, in a letter to the chairman of the Aid-for-Britain National Council, Mr. F. P. Walsh. “Constant attention is being given to procuring a rapid turn-round of shipping,’’ said Mr. Walsh at a meeting of the council, “and my council and I feel that the changes the Minister contemplates would considerably facilitate efforts to get as early as possible the shipment of the maximum amounts of food for Britain.”
