GASTRIC ’FLU TOLL OF BABIES IN ADELAIDE
ADELAIDE, Aug. 3
At least 10 infants, most of them less than six months old, have died in Adelaide hospitals in the past six weeks from a new form of gastric influenza now prevalent in Adelaide. The mortality rate has been particularly high among infants, as most adults recover within a few days. Blood transfusions are believed ip have saved infant patients at Adelaide Children’s Hospital. At one time over a dozen children have been receiving continuous drip blood transfusions in a ward which has been set aside for gastric influenza cases.
