SURPRISE WIN BY HIGH MORALE

(Herald Special Service.)

The Hastings-bred Bulandshar gelding, High Morale, created a surprise with his success in the Homeby Steeplechase, principal event at the Christchurch Hunt Club's meeting on Saturday. He was going like a winner when he’ crashed at the board fence six furlongs from home in the Hawke’s Bay steeples, but apart from that performance his form of late has not been very illuminating. He is trained by the veteran, Alf Wright, one of the Dominion's most successful jumping trainers and has now paid expenses to the National meeting. Whether he is to be considered a light-weight possibility in the Grand National Steeplechase is a matter of opinion, but in his favour is the fact that lie has won over the Riccarton course.

Second to High Morale came Eleanor Star, a good jumper. His form this reason has been fairly good. He has won on three occasions in the last four or five months. Brookby Song, an interesting runner, gave a creditable performance in running third carrying only 31b. short of 13st. in his first effort over the Riccarton steeples course.
