The statement presented to the routine meeting of the P.R. Rugby Union management committee on Mondav night disclosed a net return of £205/2/3 from the recent street appeal for the fund 1 to send the representative team to the South Island where the engagements include a game with Otago for the Ranfurly Shield next month.

The chairman. Mr. M. H. Bcuth, endorsed the thanks previously cxpresed bv the president of the union, Mr. G. J. Jcuno. for the generous response and the help of all who had cooperated in the effort, Donations tc the fund were received at the meeting from the Patutahi club, the Ngatapa club and the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, the contributions being £2 2s, £5 and £lO 10s respectively. In response to a request from the union advice was received from the National Broadcasting Service through station 2ZJ that a recording would be made of the Otago-Poverty Bay game on September 4 and forwarded to Gisborne for broadcast from station 2ZJ.

Three nominations were received for the position of touring manager of the Poverty Bay team and the election was deferred until the next meeting.

Possible Reps, for Practice The following players were nominated by the selectors, Messrs. F. Solomon and J. Gillespie, for a practice assembly at the Oval at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday after which the representative team to meet East Coast on the Gisborne ground on Saturday is to be announced:— Backs. —R. McGregor, I. James, J. Barbour, R. Clay, G- Harris, J. Richards (Old Boys); R. McKinley, W. Edwards (Celtic); S. Lee (H. 5.0.8.) Forwards—N. Summersby, B. Birred. G. Elliott (Old Boys); G. King, I. Brown, who were among others considered, would not be available for Saturday's game,' it was stated. Seven-a-Side Play As the result of a request from the P.B. Rugby Referees’ Association for a ruling on a point not provided for in the laws of the game, the committee decided to follow in seven-a-side play conducted by the union the system adopted generally when team scores are level at full time. This provides for an immediate change of ends and the continuance of play with changes of ends each five minutes until a try or goal is obtained, when the match will end, or until a force-down occurs or a defending player sends the ball into touch-in-goal or the dead ball area, when the match will end with the award of one point to the opposing team. Severe Reprimand

Two junior players, C. Scanlan (Old Boys) and B. McLaughlin (H. 5.0.8.), who attended the meeting, admitted having been engaged in a struggle but denied that blows were struck during the incident in the game of July 24 which resulted in their being ordered by the referee, Mr. A. Sutton, to leave the field. The referee’s report alleged that the two players had been fighting after a general warning had been given to both teams. Following the explanation and review of the evidence available the committee decided to administer a severe reprimand to both players and to stand them down for one playing Saturday.

A letter reecived from the Mamakau (Rotorua) club inquiring concerning the possibility of a game with a senior team in Gisborne during September was referred to the club delegates, it being indicated that Celtic and Old Boys would combine in fielding a side on September 4 when the Poverty Bay representatives are on tour.

There were present at the meeting Messrs. M. H. Beuth, chairman, J. O’Neill, B. H. Dodge, L. Lamont, R. Huston, E. Felton, J. Smith, R. Callaghan, F. J. Baillie, K. F. Jones, T. W. McGuffie, and W. S. McKee, secretary.
