OTAGO SUB-UNIONS BEAT DUNEDIN CITY

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, July 15. On a heavy ground at Carisbrook yesterday the Otago Sub unions’ Rugby football team proved too strong for Metropolitan (Dunedin City). Although the City side had a back line which included Pcrriam, Elvidge, Botting and Moore, the Country forwards —fiive of them had played in Ranfurly Shield games last season—dominated the play. With the aid of two Kiwis in the rearguard, Kearney and Meates, the Sub-unions won by nine points to nil —a score which scarcely indicated the decisiveness of the victory. Meates scored a try for Country and L. Haig, brother of the Rugby League international, kicked two penalty goals.
