“ONLY CHRISTIAN TRADITION CAN SAVE WORLD”--Archbishop

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 21. “My country right or wrong. . “Business is business . . These were cited as undesirable sentiments by Archbishop AveriH, preaching at the old boys’ service at King’s College yesterday. He was emphasising the need for facing up to traditions and ensuring that they were founded on the rock of truth.

“Then there i 3 that vulgar jingoistic and so-called patriotic song ‘Rule Britannia,’ ” added _ the Archbishop. ‘‘l believe Lord Midnel’s thought on the British Empire were right. It did not inspire in him any desire to boast, wave the flag or sing ‘Rule Britannia,’ but to get away and pray for it,” the Archbishop added. “Only one thing will save the world 1 ] —Christian tradition,” he added. “You - can have all your conferences, Big Fives or Big Sevens but only Christianity will save the peace. All political parties, unions and other bodies fell before Hitler except the Christian church. It suffered but it had moral courage. It was the Christian tradition that saved England and the world in 1940.”

He added that tradition had to get into tlie blood and into every sphere of daily life.
