PRIME MINISTER’S VISIT TO WHATATUTU SCHOOL

While in Whatatutu on his inspection of the district last week, the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, accompanied by his private secretary and Mr. J. S. Jessep, East Coast Commissioner, paid a visit to the Whatatutu School, which is one of the latest open-air schools to be erected in the Hawke’s Bay Education Board’s district.

The Prime Minister inspected the school buildings and playground facilities, noting especially the curtailment of playing area due to swamp and lack of drainage. The children were addressed by Mr. Fraser and Mr. Jessep, after which a request was made that the head teacher grant the children a holiday to mark the occasion of the first visit of a Prime Minister to Whatatutu.

Cheers were given by the assembled pupils as the party continued on its tour.
