LONDON, June 20

The Prime Minister, Mr C. R. Attlee, addressing a meeting in London, said they had seen the growth in other countries of a spurious thing called socialism, but which was bureaucratic collectivism. Instead of the rank and file choosing their leaders, they were told whom to choose.

‘They have a curious single-list election system in some of those countries,” he said. “It always makes us laugh to hear of it. These people think they are fit to govern because of the superior conviction that they have a certain creed to enforce. We have seen it in some trade unions—subversive dements sometimes dressed in sheep’s clothing.
