WITHDRAWAL OF RED GLARE LEAVES ISSUE OPEN IN SMALL FIELD IN MANAWATU STEEPLECHASE

(Herald Special Service.)

THERE is a possibility of four divisions at Awapuni tomorrow when the Manawatu Racing Chib will hold the final day of its winter fixture. In all the eight races the fields are large.

The going, in all probability, will be similar to that on the opening day, although there are prospects of rain. A fair number of horses that did not race last week are listed tomorrow, while others who competed successfully the first day, including Bay Kobe, Trafalgar Bay, Mangatiti, and the Maiden winners, are absentees. NGATA HACK HURDLES ELECTRIC HACK HANDICAP

Master Raymond (3), 10.7, having his first-hurdle race the first day won and with that experience might be even better off this time so he looks like being a favourite.

. Trig Point (14), 10-4, third in the open hurdles last Saturday, on that form would appeal, but the company was mediocre.

Result (18), 10.3, had every chance When running second the first day, but is held in high esteem by Awapuni track watchers. Ernbrae (8), 10.1, has not raced in a hurdle race since beating United Nations and company at Gisborne last October. On that he would be a possibility.

General Lytup (16), 10.1, at the Napier Park meeting ran two good races for a win and a close second. Sunshine Bay (1), 9.13, a beginner at lumping, won at Napier Park and may be even better now for that experience. Valued (9), 9.13, is passed over in favour of Beau Jewel.

Beau Jewel (11), 9-13, last week came from a long way back to collect third money. If he can be kept handier to the leaders he might do still better. Cramond Bay (5), 9.10, did not please a week ago. Ganges (21), 9.7, is definitely on the up-grade. Miss Sterling (221. 9.7, finished close un to the third place-getter the first day.

Royal Ducc (17), 9.7, on Tuesday morning pleased in a school at Hastings. One would not be surprised if he was in the money. Christopher Wren (4), 9.3, a fancied candidate, fell last week. Astrone (10), 9.0. may find the distance his greatest troubleOf the others, form does not point their way. NOVICE STAKES

(FIRST DIVISION) Blank Cheque (2), 9.5, is a very fair hack, but he has two recent failures on his chart.

Meteorina (12), 9.1, has not raced recently. Bulasclle (4), 8.12, may need a race. Clare’s Pal (5), 8.9, second last week, may do better now with no Mangatiti to contend with. Graulity (3), 8.7, seldom runs a bad race.

Foxtonian (7), 8.5, third last week, is not overlooked. Valchase (8), 8.4, winner last Saturday of a maiden race, will again be considered. The balance of this division do not make a strong appeal. SECOND DIVISION) Sir Royal (8), 9.3, consistent, will be liked.

Bian Rouse (14), 8.12, is not racing up to expectations, but this time may make amends.

Broiealice (7), 8.10, of late has been in the money a few times —due any day. Retrieve (11), 8.9, has no recent form. Noble Knight (9), 8.8, in another that enters calculations. Vakura f 1), 8.4, was in the money twice at Napier recently so on that is considered, but if the distance was six his chances would look better. Galway Bay (13), 8.3, led to the straight last week and then weakened; may be all the better for that race. Battle Spear (6), 8.2, and Sandy Harrison (2), 8.1, might possibly prove the pick of the remainder. HURDLES

MOUTOA LORD (1), 10.12. at times gives a good account of himself, but has not raced over hurdles for a few months.

PERIA PRINCE (8), 10.9, was nowhere last week with the same weight in company that perhaps is hardly as good as the present. ISAKSOON (5), 9.13, appeals greatly to the writer.

There is not a great deal of form offering to help one. In the First Division the best fancied in all probability may be Battle Strife, Lady Hilton, Myfox, Platamon and Irresistible, while in the Second Division those favoured may include Kainagpai, Lord Manna, Nullah, Festal and the Hastings filly Thor, who ran two encouraging races recently and who may have been a little unlucky. ★PALMERSTON NORTH HOP. TREMELLO (1), 9.6, won handsomely last week, but now has an extra 101 b. on his back. BRONSTAR (12). 9.1. a three-year-old, won well at Wanganui and looks like being a favourite now as he is a good colt. MOROTAI (2). 8.11, in her last two efforts was not at all impressive. DUNBAR (6), 8.10, may be the better for last week’s race and should the going be really heavy will take some beating. AUDACIOUS (14), 8.7, who is racing unluckily, is due any day to win a maior handicap. EMERGE (13). 8.5. ran a fair race up to a point last week, being in the call to the home turn. MERRC ROBIN (9). 8.5, last week’s favourite, was never a possibility. SECOND SEAL (10), 8.4, has been in the money thrice of late and on that cannot be disregarded. YANDRA f 3), 8.4, is not fancied on recent showings. SILVER PAL (16), 8.2, might surprise as he likes it soft or easy. Of those weighted on the minimum, place chances may be given to FAIRIIOME (11), .FOXELLA (5), and PETER THEIO (7). ★MANAWATU STEEPLES GAY ROUEN (7), 10.2, a good jumper. must be respected. ALBINO (8). 10.4, might require a race or two more before being back to bis best, but he bears a well-trained appearance nevertheless. ELLERTON HALL (10), 9.11, is making his first appearance for some time so for that reason is not fancied. MASTER PLAY (9), 9.10, should be close to the money. WIIIPIIAND (4), 9.10, a very fit gelding and a winner twice in the last few weeks, is not without a show. TID-APA (2), 9.7, plodded on last week for fourth and should appreciate the 191 b. less to carry. TIT UNDERHEAD ( 3 ) > go, fell last week. GLENFAYLE (G), 9.0, winner of the hack steeples last week, is not counted out now. ROYAL SWARD (1), 9.0, has only a show.

GLEN URQUHART (2), 9.12, was not very impressive a week ago. ROCKANUI (3), 9.11, did not contest the hack hurdles last week. He must appeal at the weight. TRIBUTE (6), 9.6, on his day might lead the others a merry dance.

TRIG POINT (7). 9.3, is also in the opening event. PETER BRIERLY (4), 9.0, deadheated for third in the Century Hurdles two weeks ago. SPIRO (9), 9.0, appears to have lost form.

HANDICAP Wild Note (13), 9.13, has not raced since the autumn, when he was a useful performer. Deprive (3), 9.8, richly deserves a win after liis many placings in the past few months. He has the condition. Play Boy (1), 9.2, ran well enough the first day to be labelled. Playtos (4), 9.1, is not overlooked by any means. Mallow (14), 8.5, was in the money at Wanganui, but his habit of getting left is not in his favour. Rosswood (8), 8.2, is the type that surprises in his first up after a respite from racing. Peter Thcio (11), 8.0, was third last Saturday, but had every show. & Master Baron (8), 8.1, is not a strong hope. Treasure Tee (9), 8.1, might manage a minor place. Paper Ruffle (12), 8.0, on the first day's form reads as well as any weighted on the minimum. FAREWELL HACK HANDICAP FIRST DIVISION lIOROUTA (14), 9.6, had every chance last week. INDIAN SONG (16), 8.13, seems to have trained off. ALUMNUS (1), 8.11, was an impressive winner on the opening day and on that should go close to repeating the dose. CORONARA (16), 8.9, is a recent winner. NIGHT ROYAL (12), 8;6. was not noticed last week at the finish. SERGEANT JACK (3\ 83. needs to improve on the first els; s Hr..:.

MASTER KIP (11), 8.2, on his second at Napier recently is a possibility. NEWEL POST (7), 8.2, third last week, on that is respected. NOW THEN (13), 8.1, on his second to Baffles Rox at Hawera last month is a place possibility. There may not be a great deal of interest - taken in the oight-s toners. SECOND DIVISION KIPPO (10), 8.13, was a little unlucky a week back when second. LORD BRADBURY (1), 8.12, is too hard to follo*y for the average man. WINNING TICKET (4), 8.9, is well overdue. GAY FELLOW (12), 8.6, is not proving reliable . FLIRTATIOUS (6), 8.5, has just a rouch show GUARDIAN (5), 8.3, was second at Wanganui at long odds. FOX FLAME (15), 8.2, on track form is a possibility. LADY ORATORY (3). 8.1, is not a strong hope, but appeals more than any below her on the card.
