POLICE ARREST YOUTHS: CRASH AT 80 M.P.H.
(P.A.) NAPIER, June 16. After an all-day hunt yesterday in the Tangcilo area, north of Napier, two youths were taken into custody by the police last night and will appear in the Children’s Court to face a Series of charges. Following a number of alleged car conversions and other offences in the Napier district in recent weeks two boys were arrested last week and, after questioning, given their liberty pending their Court appearance. On Monday night two further cars were converted in Napier and Hastings. Both were later recovered in a damaged condition, one of them at the bottom of a 50-foot bank on the Devil’s Elbow, on the Napier-Wairoa road.
These events led to the police-hunt resulting in the apprehension of the two youths. It was stated by the police superintendent, Mr. J. Fox, Napier, this morning that the youths both escaped uuhurt from the crash following a chase at 80 m.p.h. by the police after a converted car near Hastings on Monday night and from the plunge over the bank on the Devil’s Elbow yesterday morning.
