HYDERABAD-INDIA NEGOTIATIONS BREAK DOWN
(11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 16. It is reliably learned that the talks between. Hyderabad and the Indian Government have broken down.
A draft agreement which was acceptable to the Premier of India, mr. Nehru, provided tor the establishment of a responsible Government in the State and the immediate liquidation of the Rakazars, the semi-military volunteer Moslem body.
The talks have lasted intermittently for eight months. Outstannding differences are believed to include "parallel legislation”. s.
India insisted that if Hyderabad failed within a reasonable time to enact any law which the New DpJhi Pariament passed, then the Indian Government should be empowered to apoly it to Hyderabad. The point was particularly material to the banning of private armies. The British United Press says that the Hyderabad Council of Ministers rejected the Indian proposals for an agreement between Hyderabad and the Indian Government.
The Nizam of Hyderabad is reported to have sent counter-proposals to Hyderabad’s deputy Prime Minister, Mr Pingle Reddy who is now in New Delhi for communication to the Indian Government.
N.W. FRONTIER LEADER ARRESTED
(11 a.m.) PESHAWAR, Juna IG. The police, on the orders of the North-West Frontier Provincial Government, arrested Abdul Ghaffar Khan. The Government alleged that he was on his way to meet agents of Fakir of Ipi who is the leader of the Waziristan tribesmen “with a view to stirring up border trouble.”
