Citrus Council are:—Auckland Citrus Growers’ ,Association, Limited, Messrs. H. M. Booth, W. Booth. F. Firth, G. Barr; Kerikeri Citrus Society Incorporated, Messrs. N. G. Boyd, C. G. Mac Diarmid; Bay of Plenty Citrus Association, Incorporated Messrs. G. T. Gibson, J. Tennent; Gisborne Citrus Society, Limited, Mr. H. Judge. There were numerous official visitors and a good representation of Gisborne growers. Prime Minister’s Tour. The programme of the Prime Minister for today comprised visits to the Gisborne High School, the Gisborne Intermediate School, and the Gisborne Borough Council’s transit camp, prior to a tour of the flood-affected areas between Gisborne and Puha. This latter journey was expected to occupy the greater part of the day, and this evening Mr. Fraser has an appointment to meet district members of the Labour Party at a social gathering. He will leave tomorrow on his return south, stopping en route to conduct the opening of a new school at Nuhaka. A Long Way To Fall! Claiming to have some acquaintance with the country through which any railway from Gisborne to the north must pass, the Prime Minister, Mr. P, Fraser, told his Gisborne Chamber of Commerce audience last evening that he had once taken a car over the MotuOpotiki road. Having no illusions as to his own capacity as a driver, he had regarded with some trepidation the narrow sections running along the tops of chasms which seemed to open under the wheels of his vehicle. "I told myself on that occasion,” he said amidst laughter, “that if I went over one of those chasms the writ would be out for a by-election in Wellington Central before I hit the bottom!” Export of British Talent If housing difficulties could be overcome New Zealand could increase her population to 5,000,000 within a very shore span of years, said the Prima Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, speaking to the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce last evening. He was dealing with a question from Mr. M. J. White .as to whether, in view of the economic difficulties now being experienced in Britain, the Dominions should not provida for a large-scale migration of skilled artisans from that country. Mr. Fraser deprecated strongly any suggestion that Britain might not weather the storm, and also commented that it would not help her in the struggle if she were to lose any substantial part of her skilled artisan categories, who in effect hact built the United Kingdom and alone could furnish her with the means to overcome present difficulties. it would be small comfort to us here, he added, "to feel that we were prosperous and growing, while the very rock from which we were hewn was crumbling to ruin.”
