GOOD YEAR FOR HORTICULTURAL SCY.

The activities of a most satisfactory year were reviewed by the retiring president of the P.B. Horticultural Society. Mr D'Arcy Blackburn, at the annual meeting in the Bon Accord on Tuesday night. Thanks were extended to the secretary, Mr. G. F. Birkett, and to the treasurer, Mr. C. O. Hansen, and Mr. Blackburn mentioned that without exception the committee had given him the fullest co-operation during the year. The annual report (previously published) was adopted. The treasurer presented a detailed statement of receipts and payments and answered several questions on the society's finances. His report, which was regarded as most satisfactory, was adopted. The election of officers resulted: — President. Mr. F. Birkett; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. G. T. Maunder, life, and D’Arcy Blackburn, Mrs B. H. Dodge; committee, Mesdames E. E. Jenkinson, D. P. Mclntyre, F. Birkett, W. Bourke, A. R. Mann, J. Kape, Messrs. W. A. Beil L. H. R Crosby, W. L. Coleman. C O. Hansen, R. Lyndon and A. T. Grieve; hon secretary, Mr. G. F. Birkett; hon. treasurer, Mr. C. O. Hansen; hon. auditor. Mr B. H. Dodge. Members were notified that Messrs. J. N. Berry, Limited, had given the society a cun for competition in carnation classes.

An attractive programme for the coming year was placed before members, this including a daffodil show in September, a rose and iris show in November, and a carnation and sweet pea display late in November. A gla diolus show was set down for December and a chrysanthemum display for April. Discussion centred later on the present problems of some members whose gardens had been silted up and there was also preliminary discussion on the projected formation of chrysanthemum rose and gladiolus circles.

Two particularly interesting ad dresses were given following the business of the meeting. These were a talk on carnation types by Mrs. R. P. Baigent, and one on the preparation of gladiolus corms for planting by Mr. F. Birkett.
