EXPERT CUE CONTROL IN P.B. SNOOKER FINAL

Breaks of 30 and 40 were registered by M. Thorstenson in an attractive exhibition at the Alhambra saloon, Gisborne, this week in winning the Poverty Bay open snooker championship. His tally in the final showed a margin of 244 points over M. Costello. The five frames, played to the last ball, were completed withan an hour. The feature of Thorstenson’s play was his remarkable control over the cue ball. In this and his success with strokes from seemingly-impossible positions he showed the form which caused the Australian champion, Horace Lindrum and the South African, Peter Mans, to class him among the three best snooker players they met during their recent visits to New Zealand. Details follow. P. 8.: Snooker Championship.—Final M. Thorstenson d. M. Costello, 383-139.
