“REPORTS OF ATROCITIES ARE PURE RUBBISH”

(PA.) WELLINGTON, June 16. There was no intention of a conflict with the Palestine Arabs and atrocity reports were “pure rubbish , an officer of Haganah, the Jewish militia, Mr. J. Brass, stated in an interview.

Mr Brass is in New Zealand to raise’funds for the rehabilitation of European Jewry and after visiting Christchurch will leave Auckland by air on June 24 for the United States en route to his home in Jerusalem. “The majority of the Arabs in Palestine are not 'fighting against us,” he said. ‘The 5000 Arabs who have been organised by a Haifa trade union are not against uS.” Describing Haifa, Mr. Brass said that today there was peace and a committee of Jews and Arabs and one British member was running the whole area. The Jews were very happy about the United Nations’ partition decision, he said for it gave them the rignt to bring all the Jewish refugees from Europe and give them a new home. He added that the United Nations’ decision was the minimum they would accept. It gave them the right of statehood and representation at the United Nations’ forum and it also gave the Jews right of free access to his home. “We are prepared to fight for these rights,” Mr. Brass said.
