BRIGHT JUNIOR RUGBY (Herald Correspondent.) Considering the lack of senior matches and th cold day, attendence at Te Araroa Domain on Saturday was remarkably good. United juniors defeated Tokorarangi, 15-5, in a last, bright game. United’s openings which led to tries were mainly made possible by their half-back. B. Peka and their backs made full use of the opportunities offering Tries were scored by JBrown, P. Atkins, E. Brooking and VV. Skipper, while L. Collier was successful with a drop-kick Tokorarangi lacked effective combination and failed to give adequate support to a proportion of their players who worked hard throughout. L. Aspinell scored for Tokorarangi. The referee was Mr. N. Lovegrave, High School met a much heavier team when they tried conclusions with Hicks Bay, but'the score was omy sixnil in favour of the latter. The Flicks Bay three-quarter, Downey, showed dash and initiative, and was the man behind their scoring. Flicks Bay tries were scored by McMcakin and Farmev For High School, who did well to hold the score down to its final proportions, T. Kamizona proved himself plucky in defence and determined, in attack. K. Wilson was the outstanding forward, while B. Thatcher, at full-back, played a praiseworthy game. Mr. G. Tamahori was the referee. WOMEN’S HOCKEY Fast, scintillating hockey worked a large gathering of spectators to a pitch of enthusiasm when the Hicks Bay women's team defeated Pohutu by two goals to one. Goals for Hicks Bay were scored by Mrs. Solomon and Mrs. Moffat, while" Mrs. White scored for Pohutu. Ptfiss L. Karauti was the referee. basketball series In a rather ragged basketball gaipe Awatere defeated City, 16-2, Awatere had some combination which was used lo good effect, the pick of the players being Mrs. B. Walker at goal and M. Leas at centre. Accurate goal work and their short, sharp passing technique gave Fligh School a 12-2 decision over Tokorarangi.
