FIRE DESTROYS LARGE HOMESTEAD
(P.A.) HUNTERVILLE, June 14. The 14-roomed farm homestead on the Green Estate was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday night. Local residents noticed the fire about 7 p.m. The flames spread too rapidly for their fire-fighting efforts to have any effect.
The Hunterville Fire Brigade, arrived but lack of water made useless their attempts to save the house. Water was pumped from several tanks near the house and a garage and implement shed were sprinkled and saved.
Mr. Arthur Green, the owner, who was in Auckland at the time, is due home today. The house had been empty for the past week. Destruction was complete, the fire burning itself right out. Only three chimneys were left standing.
