TALKS ON FIJI DEFENCE PLANS

(10 a.m.) CANBERRA, June 15.

The Minister of Defence, Mr. J. J. Dedman, announced that the first of a series of conferences between Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom on Pacific defence is being held in Suva.

The conference is discussing the need for increased strength for Fiji as , a Pacific base. The Governor of Fiji is representing the United Kingdom, Brigadier G H. O'Brien is representing Australia and New Zealand is represented by a group of defence authorities
