BURGLARS STEAL £l7O FROM SAFE
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. June 15. During the week-end thieves ripped the top .off a safe in the laundry office of Taylor’s (Christchurch) Bagwash at 57 Kilmore street and escaped with a haul - believed to have been worth about £l7O. Some of the money stolen from the safe represented national savings put away for members of the staff. Other money handed in by drivers after their rounds on Saturday was also taken. The burglars made a choice from some of the cheques they found. The safe which'was a heavy one,.was manhandled out from the wall before the intruders forced off. the top with heavy instruments. The thieves carried out their work only a few feet from the footpath as the office opens directly on to Kilmore street. , . It is not yet known how the thieves gained entry to the building._
