WIN FORFEITED

UNION RUGBY CLUB TRANSFER RULE BROKEN PLAYER FROM MARIST Failure to observe the rules of the T.B. Rugby Union governing (he transfer of players resulted, in accordance with the decision of the management committee last evening, in the Union club seniors being deprived of the win recorded against Marist on June 5. In reply to the request of the committee following a report presented last week letters were received last evening from the Union and Marist clubs in explanation of the playing of a Marist member for the Union club on June 5 without approval by the union. It was indicated that the player wished to make the change and both clubs had been consulted, but when the Union club needed him and he had taken the field the formalities had not been complied with. These included the clearance from the Marist club. It was explained during the discussions that the player had taken the field with Union in an ensuing game also and the transfer was still not complete. Provision in Rules Reference was made to the rules for club contests which provide that an application for a transfer must be ’ signed by the player concerned and submitted to the union by the club to which the transfer is desired and to the need for a clearance by the club from which the transfer is to be madeIt was pointed out that the Marist club had not lodged a protest concerning the game, but that the rule must be enforced in the common interests of clubs. After consideration had been given to the alleged continuing offence it was decided to notify the Union club that the match of June 5 would be forfeited to Marist. As played that match hesulted, 11-9. in favour of Union. For the guidance of clubs it was stated that applications for transfers should he lodged in time for approval at the meeting of the management committee prior to the day on which it was desired the change should become effective.
