BURMA WANTS TO GO THE RUSSIAN WAY

Mr. Thakin Nu, who will resign as the Prime Minister on July 20, told 10,000 members of the United Left Party that he would do his utmost to establish economic and political relations with Russia. Although Burma was surrounded by nations within the Anglo-American sphere of influence, its leaders wished to follow the Russian ideology. The party programme included the abolition of capitalism and the landlord s> stem, State control of trade, transfer of fiscal authority from London to Burma, prevention of foreign aid impinging on sovereighty, the propagation of Marxism and assistance for Labour in fighting capital.
