CAESARIAN BIRTH OF QUADRUPLETS
(11 a.m.) LONDON, Juno 13. Quadruplets have been born by a Caesarian operation to Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Good, aged 28, a manager’s wife, of Coalpit Heath, Gloucestershire, who, until she was X-rayed on June 11, expected twins.
Mrs. Good is well and there is every hope of survival for the babies—four girls. They are Bridget, 31b. 130 z.; Frances, 4Jlb,; Elizabeth, 41b. 3Joz.; Jennifer 31b. l4oz. The births were due in the middle of July, but. the doctors at Southmend Hospital, Bristol, performed a Caesarian operation because of the mother's high blood pressure and symptoms of toxaemia. All the babies cried lustily at birth except Jennifer, who needed resuscitation. The babies are being kept in oxygen chambers. They have a two-year-old sister. Of the 15 sets of quadruplets born in Britain in the past 12 years, the only other surviving set are three sons and a daughter, aged 12, of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Miles, of Saint Neots, Huntingdonshire.
