ANTI-INVASION AIR EXERCISES
(10 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 14. The first, anti-invasion air exercises ever to be carried out by the R.A-A.F. are being hold at Darwin today. The purpose of the exercises is to establish at short notice a forward operations base. This type of operation was carried out successfuly in Europe and the Islands during the war. When the “invasion alarm” is raised a number of Dakota transport aircraft will move entire field maintenance units and administrative staff of the Lincoln bomber squadron from Amberley aerodrome, Brisbane, to Darwin.
The bombers will accompany the move and will begin operations as soon as they reach Darwin and refuel. Over 100 officers and men with equipment and supplies sufficient for four weeks’ operations will take part in the manoeuvVs, including a search for enemy convoys and high altitude bombing.
