Infectious Disease Cases Six esses of infectious diseaser were notified to the Health Department from the East Cape health district for the week ended at noon today. These were four cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, one of cerebro-spinal meningitis, and one of tuberculosis of the spine. There were also three deaths, one from cere-bro-spinal meningitis and two of pulmonary tuberculosis. In addition, there was a suspected case of poliomyelitis. Heavy Road-Making Machinery Heavy earth-moving machinery of a type which will probably be used in constructing the proposed motor-way linking Auckland and Wellington rumbled through the outskirts of Auckland on Friday on its way from the Central Wharf to the distributing centre. It was the first large post-war shipment of modern road-making equipment to reach New Zealand from the Australian factory of the American manufacturers. The shipment consisted of two tournapulls with scrapers attached and two carry-all scrapers. The tournapulls are claimed to be the fastest earth-moving machines in the world, having a maximum travelling speed at full capacity of 20 miles an hour.
