Saturday’s Rugby games throughout the Poverty Bay, East Coast and VVairoa areas took place ill mild, cloudy weather on grounds softened by recent rain, though but little fell during the period of play. Attendances generally were again large.

Sub-union play featured three representative games. In the Poverty Bay area the Waikohu team withstood at Tc ICaraka the challenge of Mo In for the Black and White Shield. In the East Coast zone Kuatoria wrested the Itoukamau Cup from Waiapu in a keen match at Tikitiki, while another of the East Coast sub-union sides, Matakaoa, travelled to Xe Itaha and defeated the Apanui (Bay of Plenty) sub-union.

In the main encounter on the Gisborne gorunds Old Boys outstayed H. 5.0.3. and, with n game in hand, took '.he lend in the senior division a point ahead of Celtic and 11.5.0.8 holding equal second position. Celtic again accounted comfortably for Union while, in a non-competition game, Marist seniors cnecked their succession of reverses with a win over a side representing Patutahi, leading club of the Ngatapa sub-union. The senior games were the third series of the second round in the P.B. competition as were also those in the junior division

Old Boys remained the only unbeaten junior team That distinction- was maintained also in the third and fourth grades by the respective Marist combinations though each has had to cede u draw.

The Intermediates, High School and lI.S 0.8, played a draw and remained bracketed lor the leadership with one series of games of the third round completed. High School (VII) won their fifth successive game and remained unbeaten in the filth grade which they lead from Intermediate (I), also undefeated but with one game less played.
