AUSTRALIA DECISIVELY BEATS N.Z. IN SECOND LEAGUE TEST
(10 a.m.) BRISBANE, June 14. Australia played better football in every department to beat New Zealand by 13 points to four in the second Rugby League Test at Brisbane before a crowd of 23,013. The virility of the young Australian forwards was the deciding factor in the match. Their play completely justified the omission from the team of some of the recognised veterans.
Australia won 22 scrums to 18 and received 17 penalties to 10.
i tries during the last five minutes beI fore half-time. The Australian full-back, Churchill, who played excellently after a nervous beginning, started a move which brought the first try. Tyquin scored the try after Holland had joined in the movement and made a clear run to Tyquin from the Kiwis’ 25. The Australian winger, McMahon, dived five yards to score the only try in the second half. Clarke kicked his second goal for Kiwis from the only penalty awarded his team in Australia’s territory during the second half.
Australia received three penalties for scrummage breaches during the first two minutes’ play and, from the third penalty Froornc kicked a goal.
The Kiwis’ full-back, Clarke, evened the scores with a penalty goal after 20 minutes’ play. Almost throughout the first half the Kiwis, harassing the defence, cramped Australia’s attack.
But Australia eventually broke through and Tyquin and Pegg scored
