NEW TOURIST HOTELS

HOBART, May 1. Determined to develop the tourist trade, the Tasmanian Government proposes to use loans aggregating £950,000. When Parliament reassembles it will submit a bill authorising loans totalling £500,000 ■ for erection of new hotels. Already a £150,000 • loan has been authorised.

The Minister for Tourists and Immigration, * Mr. Howroyd, said today that the tourist trade was one of the most lucrative industries in the State. It was estimated that this season tourists brought to Tasmania more than £2.000,000.

Loans would be approved only for buildings to cater for tourists, as it was intended to make an all-out effort to attract them from America and other oversea countries.
