JUNIOR TEAMS DRAW
WAIROA AND GISBORNE REP. RUGBY IN RAIN (S.R.) WAIROA, June 8. Hard-rucking forwards dominated the junior rep. Rugby game in which Wairoa and Gisborne drew, six-all, on the Wairoa ground yesterday. The heavy condition of the ground, showers of cold, driving rain and the slippery ball spoiled efforts in attacking play by the backs, but both sets maintained a very good defence. Wairoa had the benefit of the wind in the first spell and Gisborne in the second, the territorial advantage corresponding and the draw being a fair indication of the trend of play. Wairoa led by a try to nil at half-time, but Gisborne’ penetrated twice with forward rushes in the second spell, while Wairoa added another try. Both the Gisborne tries were scored by the H. 5.0.8. forward. R. Lincoln. Tries for Wairoa were scored byJones and Green.
