BILLIARDS TITLE FINALISTS FOUND

The completion this week of the semi-finals of the Poverty Bay open billard championship leaves D. B. Tennent and J. Hutchins to contest the final to be played at the Alhambra saloon Gisborne, on Monday evening. In defeating the title-holder, R. Rare, in the semi-finals, Tennent played-at-tractive all-round billiards. He scored well with cannons and showed good judgment in close-range positional play. Rare was unable to produce his earlier form.

Hutchins ran up breaks of 40 and 50 by exploiting the losing hazard and won comfortably his semi-final game with A Muir, who also played promisingly. but missed collecting some likely" breaks as a result of seeming difficulty in gauging the speed of the table. The contrasting styles shown in the qualifying games by the finalists should lend attraction to Monday’s concluding match. Results: — P.B- Billiards Championship.—Semifinals: D. B. Tennent d. R- Rare. 300205; J. Hutchins d. A. Muir, 300-203.
