U.N. APPEAL FOR CHILDREN MOW £175,000
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 5. The total of the United Nations’ appeal for children reached £175,000 on Thursday night, said the Dominion appeal organiser, Mr. R. Malcolm, yesterday. He added that Thursday’s contributions direct to the Wellington headquarters amounted to £2130.
The consul for Greece, Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, accompanied by the vice-consul, Mr. S. Garland, yesterday handed in £4BO for the appeal fund.
The money, said Mr. Malcolm, was collected through the Greek organisation in Wellington by a committee set up as recently as May*--23. Funds were still being collected throughout the country, he continued.
A telegram from the Chatham Islands reported that the sum collected there to date totalled £4OO.
A Dunedin schoolboy, Kenneth Clydesdale, who opened the appeal in his home town just over a month ago, has completed a New Zealand tour and will return to Dunedin from Wellington by air today. Kenneth has given 63 public addresses, mostly to theatre audiences, workers’ meetings, and on the air.
