MATAWHERO YARDING

SIX THOUSAND SHEEP

WETHERS AT 36/6

Approximately 6000 sheep, including some 500 in the fat pens and a small yarding of fat cattle met with a good demand at the weekly sale at Matawhero yesterday, the majority changing hands under the hammer though in a few cases the vendors’ reserves were not realised. Wether hoggets with a few pens of ewe hoggets comprised the big proportion of the yarding. In conformity with recent trends breeding ewes were not sought after. Top price of the sale, 36s 6d, was paid for a line of 49 four-tooth wethers in the store section. Breeding ewes realised up to 36s 3d. In the fat cattle section Jersey cows were sold at from £4 to £7 and veaK ers at from £3 10s to £4 17s. The following details show the range of prices and passings.
