NEW SET-UP FOR N.Z. DAIRY BOARD
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 4. It is understood that the Government has approved of the reorganisation of the New Zealand Dairy Board, subject to the inclusion of a Government nominee.
The new set-up, based on the relative outputs of the districts and bodies concerned. is intended to give more comprehensive representation on the board. The board approved by the Government will consist of eight members, of whom seven will represent the producers.
The new districts, as laid down by the Dominion dairy conference last year, will be represented as follows: North Auckland, one; New Zealand Dairy Company, two; South AucklandEast Coast, including Gisborne, one; Taranaki, one; Palmerston NorthWanganui - Wellington - Hawke’s Bay-Marlborough-Nelson, one; Westland-Canterbury-Otago and Southland one.
Previously the representation has been from the following wards: North Auckland-South Auckland-East Coast, other than the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Company, one; New Zealand Coop. Dairy Company, one; Taranaki-. Manawatu-Wairarapa and Wanganui, one; South Island, one, together with a Government nominee.
The industry had asked for a board of seven producer members and the Government’s counter-proposal will now come before the next meeting of the Dairy Board and will later be considered by the Dairy Industry Council.
