WELLINGTON SEEKS HIGHER TRAM FARES
(P.A.) . WELLINGTON, June 4. An application by the Wellington City Council for increases in tram fares will come before the Price Tribunal shortly at a public hearing. The tramway system is now reported to be losing at the rate of over £IOO,OOO a year. The loss began six months ago when the tribunal gave an increased wages allowance to tramwaymen. Except for reductions in the number of rides on concession tickets, there has been no substantial increase in the Wellington tram fares for about 30 years.
