The winter meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club will be opened At VVingatui tomorrow and will be continued on Monday and concluded on the following Saturday. Dig fields will be paraded lomorrow and one race, the Trial Stakes, with a total of 40 acceptors. will hayc to be run in two dirisions. The long-established Dunedin Steeplechase has a field of 14, mostly from Otago and Southland, and the Otago Hurdles will be contested by 16 horses, while the chief flat event, the Birthday Handicap, has a field of 17, including four from Riecarton. There has hern some rain in (he district this week and the track is likely to be in its usuual winter condition, but not as heavy as in some recent years. The betting will be under the win-and-place system. The following horses arc likely to he well supported:— TAJ! UN A HACK & HUNTERS' STEEPLECHASE. l-irsl Out, Paladeo, Ballvaggan.
