TAKEN IN TOW
THE PORT WAIKATO KAMO REACHES SCENE WELLINGTON BOUND (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 14. The motor ship Port Waikato, which has been drifting helplessly since her propeller was jammed with a wire rope on Wednesday morning was about 40 miles north of the Chatham Islands last night. The sea in the area at (i p.m. was reported as smooth and there was no wind. The trawler Manuka was still standing by the crippled vessel. The rescue ship Kamo took the Port Waikato in tow at 8 a.m. today, New Zealand time and is proceeding to Wellington. Under good conditions it is estimated that the two vessels should reach Wellington by Sunday, or early on Monday morning. The distance of the tow is approximately 400 miles. The master of the vessel is Captain C. A. Keith.
