May 13 Wi’h the British 'nandate ending within »8 hours lhe United Nations I jffortj to establish an emergency regime met complete failure yesterday as both Jew? and Arabs flatly rejected all the main point? of the plan. Informed quarters say there are now | only two chances oi a temporary solution being reached in time First, It is believed that the United States if preparing some plan and, secondly, the United Nations may compromise ana adopt a solution which is acceptable only to the Jews, namely, a mediation regime which should not prejudice the chances of eventual partition. Meanwhile, the committees will continue discussions although the delegates admit privately that the outlook is hopeless.
