N.Z. TROOPS TO LEAVE JAPAN; ALL HOME BY SEPTEMBER

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 29 The New Zealand Army component of J Force is to be withdrawn from Japan over the period July to September when the men's tour of duty expires. This announcement was made by the Minister of Defence, Mr. F. %nes, when an Australian cable message was referred to him stating that the Australian Defence Council proposed to reduce the Australian J Force from 8500 to 3000 by the end of the year, Mr. Jones added that it was not intended to replace the New Zealand force. It is understood that the withdrawal arrangements do not in the meantime affect No. 14 Squadron, R.N.Z.A.F. The Government’s decision means the return to this country of about 2400 officers and other ranks.
