GOOD SHOOTING

WAIROA PROSPECTS “NEVER BEEN BETTER” SWAN, DUCK, PHEASANTS (S.R.) WAIROA, April 29. Prospects for shooters in the Wairoa district for May 1 are the best for years, according to an official of the Rod and Gun Club. “All the lakes,” he said, “are literally black with swan and duck, particularly the Whakaki, Korito and Wairau lakes, while at Mahia the number of birds has never been equalled before. “The silent prayer of sportsmen now is that the district will' experience heavy rain and southerly winds between now and Saturday, for at present it is experiencing a dry spell. “So far as pheasants and quail are concerned the prospects are equally as bright, the numbers of these birds having considerably increased as a result of the local club’s liberating plan which has borne excellent results and dog men should have no difficulty in securing limit bags.
