CUP TO ACROPOLIS (P.A) DUNEDIN, April 26. The Forbury Park Trotting Club’s Centennial Cup meeting opened on Saturday in sunny weather before a record attendance. The track was heavy at the start, but improved later. The totalisator handled £122.945, s record for a trotting or racing meeting in Otago and Southland. The amount handled on the first day last year was £70.435 10s, and Saturday’s total represented an increase of £52.509 10s. An inquiry was held into the running of Belmont'Hall in the Port Chalmers Handicap and it was decided to accept the explanations of the owner and driver that the horse, who was only a three-year-old, had never raced before under similar track conditions and that the horse was short of work owing to bad weather. An inquiry was held into the running of Emulous in the Centennial Cup. Veterinary evidence was given that horse had cut both forelegs during the running of the race.
