ROAD IMPASSABLE
HEAVY COAST RAIN NORTHERN STREAMS RISE Heavy rain commenced at 11 a.m. yesterday and continued throughout the day in the northern section of the East Coast. Consequently, the rivers and streams in the district rose and at a late hour last night, when it was still raining, the streams crossing the main road were too high to permit any traffic through them. Advice was received last night by the resident A.A. (Auckland) patrol, Mr. V. Stubbings, that the Oweka Stream crossing and other open water-courses north of Te Araroa would be impassable to all cars today. The water would probably still be too high to permit small cars to cross even tomorrow.
Further advice was received by the patrol this morning that there had been heavy rain pr&ctically throughout last night and the streams were still high and impassable to cars today. Small car-owners were warned that it would probably be Sunday before they could hone to ford the crossings successfully.
At 11 a.m. today the rain had stopped at Te Araroa. but it was still overcast, with a very strong wind blowing. Showery weather prevailed from Ruatoria southwards yesterday.
