BARRAGE, WELCOME GUEST, PROVED GALLOPERS, MAY BE BETTER SUITED BY DRIER H.B. TRACK

(Herald Special Service.)

AgERY bright prospects exist for the concluding day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting on the Hastings racecourse tomorrow. Very little rain had fallen up to Thursday, and with two days of good drying winds, there should be a vast improvement in the condition of the track compared with the first day. That is, of course, if rain does not set in again. King’s Ransom and Langspiel, the winners of the double on the opening day, are not this time engaged, but their absence will make their respective events all the more even.

All the events have filled well, and none will have to be run in divisions.

KARAMU HACK HURDLES Gyration (10), 10.7, failed at his last start, hut won his previous two starts so that he has form to recommend his chances on. Kilmanagh (21), 10.5, is hardly one to appeal strongly, but the race last week did her good. Kockanui (1), 10.1, has only lib. more than he ran third with last week and maybe the going will suit him better this time. Morocco (22), 9.13, is having his first hurdle start, but in schooling has impressed and is not to be left out of calculations. Even Light (7), 9.7, is another hurdle beginner. Private reports say that this Illumination gelding jumps well. Imperial Crown (11), 9.6, came home well for fifth last Saturday, being a little unbalanced early in the heavy going. He should be very close for a place. Master Peter (15), 9.C, was narrowly beaten last Saturday so would only have to repeat that form to be there again, but will he? Trig Point (6), 9.6, is yet another having his first hurdle race and in his case, too, his private reputation has to be relied upon and it is that he is promising. Gencro (2), 9.4, is reputed to have done two years’ schooling so although it is his first attempt he is considered well seasoned. Te Aki (16), 9.3, has shown form sufficient to say his chances are fair. General Lytup (9), 9.2, ran a fair race last Saturday, leading to the last hurdle, when the heavy going stopped him. With a firmer grip to the track this time he may prevail. Crispin (4), 9.1, has shown hack hurdle form and with his speed might surprise in this event in which so many seem to possess at least place hopes. Of the other half-dozen, however nothing is expected to upset calculations, although in jumping races anything is liable to happen. TWYFORD HACK HANDICAP Mabel Knight (8), 9.0, may have benefited by the race she had last week, although the improvement would need to be rather marked. Clive Bay (11), 8.9, ran a creditable third last week after drawing the extreme outside, but this time will not have the services of Broughton, who will be riding at Waverley. Dainty Moti (7), 8.9, may have been hampered by the state of the going seven days ago, when she was fourth so enters calculations. Indian Song (4), 8.8, has gone up 21b for not starting last week, but has drawn four against her 18 last week

Master Kip (12), 7.13, might surprise as he shows just fair ability. Queen’s Parade (1) 7.13, will appreciate the betler going ...id is sure to see that the pace is on throughout. He would be better liked it the distance was a furlong shorter. There are many others engaged who hardly call for description inasmuch as they have not the form to recommend their chances on, but If tnere is to be a surprise among them Temple Fox (13), 7.12, may be the one to provide it. JUVENILE HANDICAP Jacquinot Bay (2), 9.0, fifth the first day after having every show, would need to improve to win. Lord Azure (9), 8.12, was a creditable second the other day; must be hard as the extra half-furlong seems to be in his favour. Demure (3), 7.9, his bracket, did not run as well last Saturday as expected. Golden Arrow (8), 8.11, is up 111 b. for that success on the opening day; may be one of the best backed again. Blue Spec (17), 8.5, is better over a shorter course. However, he has good enough form to suggest him being dangerous. Ann Bridge (1), 8.2, was not started the first day; on Riccarton form enters calculations. Hasty Glance (10), 7.13, is a newcomer from the first day. Won earlier in the season, but his last three efforts bore no fruit. Robin’s Song (4), 7.5, having his first race last week was fourth so that he must not be overlooked as that race is sure to do him good and the extra distance seems to favour his chances, too. Fighting Fox (11), 7.1, third last week, did not have the “breeze” with him and on that placing under the circumstances would not surprise if elected favourite. Sandalwood (14), 7.1, ran a good third last January at Wellington to Pitoitoi and Jaconet so that she certainly reads the best of the others, but at the same time is not being recommended now. HASTINGS HACK CUP Tino Mohio (9), 9.1, a surprise winner last week, although not being at the same long odds again, will not be the favourite as it is thought the heavy state of the going last Saturday caused the upset in this middle-distance hack race. Mine Host (13), 8.8, has the same weight as finishing fifth with; may be better suited by the going this time. Winning Ticket (8), 8.5, did not impress overmuch a week back. Indian Song (10), 8.3, has not raced over a middle-distance previously, but if started would add interest to the race. She is bred to run the course. Incident (11), 8.2. seems to have been handicapped rather strangely as in this race the minimum is 41b. less than last week yet this Lord Quex gelding is set to carry 51b. more than last week so why the additional 91b. for running nowhere? Lackamor (14), 8.2, fourth last week, on account of that is not passed over. Master Moti (17), 8.1, failed a week ago, but maybe like others racing this week-end will do better on the expected improved track conditions. Vassilikos (1). 8.1, is not greatly fancied. Rondelle (15), 8.0, on his Mastcrton form would be a consideration as there he ran second to Mine Host at the difference of only 21b. and now there is 81b. separating the pair. Ballinagh (12), 8.0, is due any day. Tuki Ngapo (7). 7.13, failed a week back, nevertheless may be worth a little consideration again. Lord Latour (4), 7.11 second the other day, has a little form to help one to a final decision. Lord Boswells (18). 7.8, showed a marked improvement by running third the other day, but maybe it was a flash in the pan. Bailey (5), 7.7, is untried over this course, but has shown as though lie might run on, but will have to be taken on trust. He appeals a little more than the others on the minimum mark. AKITIO HACK HANDICAP Clive Bay (3), 8.6, is not without winning chances in this race as of the three races engaged in tomorrow this looks the easiest. Sir Warrior (13), 8.4, never flattered the first day. Master Moll (15), 8.2, may prefer the Hack Cup distance. Master Rich (11), 8.2, could do no belter than eighth on the opening day. He may do heller on this occasion.

The Missioner (5), 8.7 up 61b. for his second to Swift Robin, must be regarded as indeed a possibility with the winner now out.

Broilyn (3), 8.6, ran a good race at Easter, but failed lamentably at Wairoa. However, no chances had better be taken with him. Tracer (1), 8.5, is hard to recommend on account of the absence of recent form. Yalta (6), 8.3, on her first day’s showing is not fancied. Fairytiinc (10). 8.1, may go better with the improvement in the going. Arvastcp (13), 7.13, is in three races, but it started here would -lave a show. La Bian (15). 7.12 would only need to oe in anything like her spring form to be very hard to beat with only 51b. above the minimum LMatis (9), 7.11, Ecstasy (12), 7.9, and Night Koyal (2), 7.9, on recent form do not appeal as much as Salient (14). 7.9. TOMOANA ELECTRIC HOP. La Jani (22), 9.0, may be a favourite, despite having again drawn wide out and the distance a furlong longer than she won so impressively over last week. Salient (20). 8.7, on his third last week must be considered. Diplomat (15), 8.4, was not started last week, while his bracket Greenlight (2), 7.13, is not without a rough chance, although he has not come up to expectations. Jet Plane (9), 8.3, failed in the going a week ago, but should be better suited this time. Loch Winnoch (11), 8.2, covered a good deal of extra ground last week when finishing fourth and on that running has a chance. Arvakur Star (6), 8.0, fifth the first day, ran well enough to give her supporters further hope. Grey Morn (4), 8.0, although a chaser’ has speed enough to see him possessing a rough show.

Astrope (16), 7.12 is the type that surprises now and then. Winter Sweet (10), 7.12, looks like seeing a very short price as she is nicely placed at 51b. for a recent winner at Riccarton.

Arvastep (8), 7.10, has two earlier engagements. Tucker Box (5), 7.10, has a very rough chance on recent form. Bonnie Scot (6), 7.7, is not liked; in fact, nothing on the minimum mark lias anything to recommend their chances on.
