RADIO HOURS CUT

THREE EACH DAY ELECTRICITY SAVING GOVERNMENT DECISION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 15. Commencing on Monday, April 19. all broadcasting stations will close down for three one-hour periods each week day. At present the stations are off the air from 11.30 a.m. to 12 r.oon, and a. 30 p.m to 6 p.m Until further notice the stations will be closed down from 8.10 a.m. to 9 a.m., from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 5 p.m to 6 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays inclusive each week.

In announcing this yesterday In a joint statement the Minister of Broadcasting Mr. Jones, and the Minister of Hvdro-Electricity, Mr. R. Semple, said it‘was the practice of the Government to close down the broadcasting stations for several hours each day when power rationing was in force. Very little power was used in the actual transmission services, but the combined saving in power resulting from receiving sets being switched off was considerable.
