The British Medical Association council decided to hold an immediate new plebiscite on the question of participation in the new health service which the doctors on February 18 disapproved of by 40,814 votes to 4735 The. new plebiscite follows assurances by the Minister of Health, Mr. Aneurin Bevan, in Parliament that the doctors will not be compelled to accept the basic State-paid salary and that the Government will not introduce a whole-time salaried State medical service by regulations instead of an Act of Parliament.
