TRADE WITH RUSSIA

RAW MATERIAL FOR U.K.

LORD BEVERIDGE EXPLAINS (P.A.) DUNEDIN, April 14. “I dislike the Soviet Government as much as 1 dislike anything in the world; It is the most hateful thing we have at the moment in the way of governments,” said Lord Beveridge last night in reply to a questioner, who asked why Britain continued to trade with Russia, where there was talk of war between the two countries. “But,’’ continued the speaker, “that is no reason why we should not trade with Russia. To avoid trade with Russia would be most unwise. We get some of the raw material we want. That is good business.” The extent of the public interest in the lectures to be given by Lord Beveridge during his stay in Dunedin was indicated last evening when the floor and most of the main gallery of the Town Hall were filled to hear his initial lecture The audience listened intently to Lord Beveridge's concise, lucid and often humorous coverage of the economic position of Great Britain, and several took advantage of his offer to answer questions after the lecture.
