BID TO CRUSH REBELS

COSTA RICAN TROOPS (10 a..m) SAN JOSE, March 22. Bitter fighting broke out yesterday as the Government began an all-out effort to smash a revolutionary movement led by Senor Jose Figuras. Plane-loads of Government troops landed at key positions to begin an encircling manoeuvre. A heavy attack is developing at Sanisidro airport which Senor Figuras’ men captured on March 10. The rebels seized three airliners at the airport and have been using them to fly arms from Guatemala.

The Minister of Security, General Rene Picado, claims that the Government operations are “progressing satisfactorily and the revolution is weakening daily."
