CRUISER DEPARTS
BRITISH HONDURAS DEFENCE OF COLONY LEFT TO THE ARMY (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright.) (10 a ) NEW YORK, March 16. Vice-Admiral Sir William Tennant left British Honduras today aboard the cruiser Sheffield. “The defence of British Honduras is now perfectly satisfactory in the Army’s hands.” he declared, says Reuter’s correspondent at Belize. The Sheffield, which arrived at Belize on February 29. following threats of invasion of British Honduras by Guatemala. leaves behind the second battalion of the Gloucester Regiment which is expected to fCay at least another three months. Admiral Tennant explained that the Sheffield had left, mainly because she is to take part shortly in joint exercises with ships of the Royal Canadian Navy which are already in the Caribbean for that purpose. Admiral Tennant insisted that the Sheffield's departure had nothing to do with the opening or closing of tne frontier. He was referring to a statement by the Guatemalan Foreign Mmister, Senor Meany, that the border would be reopened as soon as the Sheffield departed.
